Design4Zim Design Challenges
How can we make the time that we are spending at home useful during the COVID 19 crisis? Do you have ideas on how to improve the lives of Zimbabwean people during and after the Pandemic? Be part of the solution and sign up for the next COVID 19 Design Challenge #Design4Zim!
A collective of local ecosystem players including TechVillage, Impact Hub Harare, Stimulus and ACT in Africa are inviting individuals or teams to compete in the next, entirely online design challenge where you and your team members can submit innovative solutions to the problems posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone from within or outside Zimbabwe can participate.
Over the course of the challenge, you will work on some of the most urgent problems facing Zimbabwe today. The challenges we will share with you have been validated by subject matter experts. This is a real problem happening in real time, and therefore, solutions to these challenges must have the potential for timely and cost-effective impact in the fight against COVID-19.
Solutions submitted will be assessed by representatives of the Collective, subject-matter experts, health care providers, and other frontline actors who can provide guidance on the practicality and impact of the solutions, resources required for development, and connections for further growth.
The winner of the challenge will be given the resources necessary to develop and implement the proposed solution, and will also be awarded a US$50 cash prize (if you are a team of 2 people each team member would receive US$25). The spirit of the competition is to contribute to the global war against COVID-19.
Challenge One Winner: Dawa Health
Congratulations to our Challenge One winner, @dawa_health. Dawa Health is a digital health platform which will aim to help with the management of the COVID-19 pandemic in Zimbabwe. Challenge 1 was held from 10 April to 16 April. The team won themselves US$50 and support from the Design4Zim Team to develop and scale the idea.
Challenge 2 Winner: Amanzi Ethu
Citizens playing their part! We are excited to have run our second challenge which focused on the important problem of access to water during the virus outbreak. A very big congratulations to the #design4zim Challenge 2 winner @AmanziEthu for being the winning submission out of 11 applications from the past fortnight. The challenge was “How might we contribute to efficient and timely access to water in high density areas?” #AmanziEthu is a tool that was inspired by the lack of timely and efficient access to water before, during and post the COVID19 outbreak. The #design4zim team will be supporting the winner with the development of their product!
